Oscar Joel Benavidez

Salinas native Oscar Joel Benavidez is a dedicated educator and performer who has significantly enriched his community through Mexican Folklórico dance. His formal training includes an AA from Hartnell College and a BA in Dance from San José State University. Driven by a mission to provide world-class training in his hometown, he now directs the Folklórico program at Alisal High School, leading a vibrant ensemble that performs throughout the Salinas Valley and beyond.

Oscar’s commitment to his craft is reflected in his extensive professional involvement with organizations like the National Dance Education Organization and master classes across North America. His teaching philosophy extends beyond technical mastery, offering students a deep dive into the history, regional identities, and cultural traditions of Mexico. Through his leadership and continuous growth as an artist, Oscar inspires a new generation of dancers to connect with their heritage through the art of movement.

Yakzubely Palma serves as the CFO/Treasurer for Danzantes del Valle supporting the organization's mission and long-term growth. With a long-standing passion for dance, she has remained connected to it throughout different stages of her life and continues her involvement as an adult.

Passionate about giving back, she is committed to uplifting her community through dance by helping create inclusive spaces where individuals can connect with their culture, express themselves, and grow. She takes pride in supporting efforts that preserve tradition and encourage future generations to stay involved.

Angel G. Millanes-Mendoza was born in Salinas and later moved to Sonora, Mexico, where he discovered his love for dance. He has been dancing for about four years, starting with the traditional Danza de Venado, which helped him appreciate his cultural roots. In high school, Angel continued his passion by joining folklórico with Danzantes Del Valle.

He graduated from Alisal High School and now attends Hartnell College, where he is studying Biology. In the future, he hopes to transfer to UC Davis and pursue a career in agriculture while staying connected to his culture and community.
